Hunter's Paradise

geese The White River NWR contains over 350 natural and man-made lakes that encompass over 4,000 acres. Fishing in the rivers, lakes, bayous and backwaters is tremendous. An angler can catch catfish, crappie, bream and bass. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission maintains a boat launch on the White River at Clarendon.

mallards Other hunting opportunities on the refuges or nearby wildlife management areas include native eastern wild turkeys, white-tailed deer and small game. Native black bears are increasing in numbers, and can be hunted with a permit during season on non-refuge land.
